The former aeronautics museum Aviodome will be rebuilt in Amsterdam and will include the first circular conference location in the Netherlands. The location will be operated by the TeKa Groep and will open its doors in the autumn.
The Aviodome will be located in Amsterdam-West, along the A5 highway. The Aviodome will soon include a large plenary hall that can accommodate groups of up to 1,000 people. In addition, 16 smaller halls and modern hospitality facilities will be built. The location has a floor area of 5000 m², making it suitable for trade shows, conferences and other events.
After the closure of the aeronautics museum at Schiphol in 2003, the dome was disassembled and stored in sea containers. Its reconstruction qualifies as a true architectural feat. The dome structure, weighing 70,000 kg will be hoisted ring-by-ring using a crane, after which a total of 1100 diamond-shaped aluminium panels will be installed.
Part of urban renewal in Sloterdijk
The reconstruction of the Aviodome is a boost to the municipality of Amsterdam, which has big plans for the surrounding area. In the coming years, the Sloterdijk industrial estate will be transformed step-by-step into a working area with remarkable architecture and (recreational) facilities for employees and visitors. The municipality's intention is to have new companies there play a leading role in the energy transition and in the transition to a circular economy. The area must form a link between the city and the harbour and occupy a central place in the Metropolitan region.
